Faro is the capital of the Algarve region and a big centre of commerce, tourism, schools, transportation: all an assembly of infrastructures that confer to Faro a singular existence.
Given the accentuated demographic growth nowadays Faro is divided in two distinct parts: an old part that still assures a tradition of fishing and people that lived of the sea; and a more recent one characterized by big new spaces of residence and leisure.
With a huge historical past, Faro also provide idyllic beaches, islands and landscapes, transforming Faro in an unique town. While enjoying the cosmopolite environment of Faro, one can still enjoy the serenity, calm and quietness of several spots here, facing an immense ocean, in a wide sandy area, as far as the eye can see.
The Ria Formosa presents itself as a bonus in Faro region, with all its splendour, consisting of two peninsulas and five barrier-islands between which the sea is able to circulate freely, has been classified as a Natural Park due to its remarkable biological diversity.
