Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz is a locality situated in Silveira village, nearby Torres Vedras, that owes its development to its privileged geographic situation right in the beauty western region Coast.
Santa Cruz is known for its high quality beaches, with extensive sandy areas.

This is a region of fertile soils, bland weather, good accesses and maritime influence, inhabited by Men since remote periods, as one can confirm in the Paleolithic vestiges of the region, when the ocean was situated above the level that it is nowadays. Probably in Santa Cruz was situated an important Roman settlement, nowadays submersed.
With the French Invasions the region gets a new development and recognition with the construction of the “Linhas de Torres”, a defensive line where several fortifications were built to defend the entrance in Lisboa, which contributed to the defeat of the French Troops.
It is in the 20th century that Santa Cruz gets its biggest development thanks to the Touristic expansion that all the region suffers. In fact, during summer time Santa Cruz receives more than 50 000 people.

The beauty and quality of its many beaches make of Santa Cruz one of the most famous beaches in this Western Coast, allied to a great variety of facilities and services, with restaurants, bars, shops, activities and accesses.

The Santa Cruz region offers places of great natural beauty and also an interesting monument heritage, with highlights such as the ancient water mill; the huge Guincho Cliff with 30 meters high and 100 meters of circumference; the Santa Helena Chapel; the Santa Cruz de Cristo recent Church where one has astonishing landscapes; the Alto da Vela, Formosa and Santa Helena Viewpoints or the very pleasant Municipal Park, perfect for leisure moments.
