At the north of Peniche, the richest region in the west, we found a small island separated from the mainland by a beach of fine white sand: Baleal. Baleal inherited the name of the function that these rocks played in the past. This small island was the place to cut and fit of whales on their migration route to the northern seas were the target of the greed of fishermen from the village of Atouguia da Baleia. This site is located at 39.3724 of latitude and -9.34092 of longitude. The nearest village is Peniche.
The seaweed samples and observations were made at the middle-littoral (intertidal zone). The type of substrate this station is a mixed, with long sandy and rocky areas (limestone). The slope of the places of collection varies from very inclined to low inclined, almost plan. This site is very exposed to the action of waves. A norte de Peniche, na rica região do Oeste, encontramos uma pequena ilha separada do Continente por uma praia de fina areia branca: Baleal. O Baleal herdou esta denominação da função que estes rochedos desempenharam no passado. Esta pequena ilha era o local de corte e talhe das baleias que na sua rota migratória dos mares do Norte eram alvo da cobiça dos pescadores da vila da Atouguia da Baleia. Este local de colheita fica situado a 39.3724 de latitude e -9.34092 de longitude. A povoação mais próxima é Peniche. As colheitas e observações de algas foram feitas no patamar médio-litoral, nos horizontes inferior, médio e superior. O tipo de substrato desta estação é do tipo misto, com extensos areais e zonas rochosas (rocha calcária). A inclinação dos locais de colheita varia do muito inclinado ao pouco inclinado, quase plano. O local encontra-se muito exposto à acção da ondulação. |
