Algae spongy, soft and non cartilaginous. Not impregnated with limestone. The main axis branch is covered with dense and incurved branchlets. the colour of the algae is red; most commonly dark red. Axis segmented (easy to observe on magnifying glass). Axes are cylindrical or more or less flattened.
