Description: |
This large red algae has pinkish to dark red upright blades and its texture is soft, slippery and gelatinous. It attaches to the substratum by means of small discoidal holdfasts and live singly or more often in clumps up to 8 individuals. The blades are linear-lanceolate foliose and either simple or irregularly divided in one plane. Tha plant's margins are entire or with proliferations and are almost always undulate and its thallus is multiaxial and has a central or primary axis. Gametophytes are monoecious and produce reproductive structures over the entire thallus, except for basal portions. |
