Description: Red seaweed native to east Asia that has spread to the other continents. Is is usually divided at the base, and can present apendicular proliferations on the margins of the thallus. Its color can range from a greenish tone to red or violet.The thallus is flat and membranous.
This seaweed is used for production of carrageenan. It's rich in fibers and proteins but poor in lipids. It has also been referenced as anticoagulant.
