Description: |
Gelidium corneum is a bushy Rhodophyta macroalgae structuring sublittoral benthic communities, with a crispate cartilaginous thallus with prominent main erect axes witch emerge from compressed or cylindrical, unbranched or branched creeping axes with red to deep purple tone. The erect fronds can have a cylindrical form at the base, subcylindrical form above and usually they are compressed at their apical ends. This macroalgae is used for agaragar extraction, both from cast-offs collecting or direct exploitation. |
