Description:

Large brown algae in the infralitoral baseline. Conspicuous haptera that form a large conical and branched holfast. The stipe is stiff, rough, cilindrical and dark brown; often covered with epiphytes, stands erect when out of water. The blade is flat, very large, tough and divided; usually very dark brown in colour but can be golden brown.
