Description:

Specie typically found in the Mediterranean zone. It’s Also present in the tropical and subtropical Atlantic. It grows in the first 20meters depth, both in muddy and rocky substrates with warm water.

C. prolifera consists of a number of blades linked by stolons (max. 1 meter) which are bind to the substrate by rhizoids. Frond are found too, with smooth edges that can reach over 15-30cms height and 3cm weight. This algae has no septs. Due to the thick cuticle, the consistence is coriaceous. Due to several pigments apart from chlorophyll, the color of these algae is light green. Branch development varies depending on the density of the algae and light conditions.

We can find this specie in it habitat all over the year (no-seasonal).
