(detailed information)

Identif Year:  2014
Colecting Site(s):
Notes: Ana Afonso; Inês Couceiro. Local: Formentera, Ibiza, Spain. Formentera is a small Island of white sand and crystalline waters, being the more southerly of the Pituisic Island Group (Balearic Islands). Over its 19km there are several roads allowing an easy access to all the parts of the island where we can find out many information about fauna and flora. With little human intervention, the island’s beaches preserve dune formations and offer an environment propitious to observing the great diversity of marine life.
Description: Anadyomene stellata is a green seaweed with one-cell-thick blade formed by veins of filaments radiating from the base in hand-fan-like branching pattern, resembling a star shape (stellate means “star-like”). The seaweed has a cartilaginous consistency with delicate blades with ruffle edges and can be found forming dense clusters.
