Notes: Ana Ramalheiro, Ana Lopes; Portinho de Areia do Norte, Peniche, Portugal; Portinho da Areia do Norte is a small wild bay usually frequented by fishermen. This beach is located in Peniche. Peniche is situated along the Portuguese coast and it’s a peninsula about 10km wide. Located in an area of the Portuguese coast rich in flora and fauna, full of golden sand and clear water beaches, tourism and fishing are attractive points of Peniche.
Description:

Derbesia tenuissima has a heteromorphic life cycle alternating between an haploid stage (sporophyte) an a diploid stage (gametophyte). The sporophyte is usually dark-green and filamentous. The filaments are coenocytics which means the cells are multinucleated. This filaments leave from a basal rhizoidal portion and are between 1 to 10cm. They taper from base to the apex. The sporangia are obovoid and there’s 50 spores for each sporangia. The gametophyte has a light green coenocytic stalk and a basal tubular portion immersed in the substract. The gametangia are dark green in female plants and yellowish green in male plants.
