Notes: Joana Rosa, Sofia Santos Porto Covo, Sines, Portugal Porto Covo has a big beach easily accessed, spacious, sheltered by a cliff, a small beach with little sand beneath the cliff in the middle of Porto Covo. There is also Praia do Buizinhos which is a small beach with a lot of shells and Baía de Porto Covo which is a gravel beach in the mouth of a water stream which is used by the fisherman of the village.
Description: Ulva compressa is a green seaweed that can grow in one of two different forms. One is a hollow tube of tissue, rounded at the top and de other is flat, narrow sheet with tangled edges. The shits of tissue are exactly one cell thick so they are very thin. Several blades or tubes can grow up 200 mm long and arise from a common attachment point. This seaweed grows in shallow water and occurs in tide pools or on rocks in the intertidal and shallow subtidal up to 3m deep. Ulva compressa is able to withstand great swings in salinity, temperature, and pH.
