Notes: Inês Tomás e Laura Domingues. Eskifjordur , Iceland. This site is characterized by a mouth area, in which flow the waters of the thaw. It is an area with a small population of about 1,000 inhabitants being difficult to access, since it is surrounded by mountains. The collection may become difficult because of the relief of the area , so it is advisable tired appropriate.
Description: Brown seaweed with filamentous stalk (with holdfast, stipe and blade). Blade with midrib, wavy margin, without ramifications. It produces cellulose and alginic acid. Its stalk is diploid starting from a meristematic zone, digenetic heteromorphic cycle with oogamy reproduction being macroscopic sporophyll generation and microscopic gametophyte made up of fairly high growth zoospores. High growth rate can reach over two meters. Can form large forest: kelp forests. It is an edible seaweed which is one of the reasons for his harvest.
