Description:
Ulva lactuca has the name taxonomically accepted Ulva lactuca Linnaeus 1753, however in Portugal is known for lettuce-fish, whose name was given by Oliveira in 1990.
It grows preferably in bays or protected areas where wave action is weak, such as pools and tidal pools, as well as the sublittoral to a depth of over 20 meters. Also tolerate brackish conditions, growing in estuaries.
An important feature of this is the fact that seaweed to extract nutrients from polluted areas and these pollutants contribute to flowering seaweed, which occurs when excess leads to consumption of all oxygen and subsequent death of the fish.
Ulva lactuca is fine color ranging from light yellowish green to darker green. Has irregularly shaped, slightly ruffled edges and may have perforations. It grows to a diameter of 20 to 30 cm, connected to rocks.
