Notes: Inês Lopes Mafalda Trovão Porto Covo, Sines, Portugal The photo was taken in Porto Covo, Sines, Portugal (more specifically in Praia dos Buizinhos). Praia dos Buizinhos is located at the extreme south of Porto Covo and it is a small beach, surrounded by rocks. Its name was acquired thanks to the abundant shells and buzios found in the sand (frequently used to make artesanat parts).
Description: Halopteris scoparia 
This algae was also known before as Stypocaulon scoparium. 
It is a dark brown algae which origins fluffy clusters in rocky-bottomed water.
It only grows until 15 cm in length and it has a center line which branches alternatively.
This specie is usually fan-shaped (except when cornered by water that makes it take an inverted cone-shaped form.
