Gonçalo Afonso e Maria Joana Barata. Praia dos Buizinhos, Porto Covo, Sines, Portugal. The seaweed was collected in a rocky substrate, in a beach located in the civil parish of Porto Covo, in the municipality of Sines, in the western side of Alentejo, in Portugal. The beach is located in the Costa Vicentina. The beach of Buizinhos has an access to the cliffs that connects to the Porto Covo village, and then throught a staircase built within the cliffs. The access are good, and there is a parking lot in the above mentioned cliff, about 50 meters from the main square of Porto Covo. This beach has yellow and soft sand, is very rocky, specially near the cliffs of metamorfic rocks, and inside the water. The climate in that area is temperate, having mild temperatures in the winter and hot summers, where the temperatures can go beyond 40 degrees Celsius. The water is cold with an average temperature of 11,5 degrees Celsius. This specimen exist at low depths in the rocks that lie in the bottom of the sea, near the beach. In low tides, sometimes these rocks emerge from the sea. The water has nitrate concentration between 4,850 and 5,063 (umol/L). The salinity values are between 35,203 and 35,211 PPS. Oxygen levels varies from 6,138 to 6,200 (mL/L). The phosphate and silicate concentrations varies between 0,336 - 0,412 (umol/L) and 2,315 - 2,448 (umol/L), respectively. |

Cartilaginous thalli with regularly or irregularly bipinnate branching and dark red-brown fronds. Specimens can reach about 50 to 100 mm in size. It has main axes with narrow and cylindrical format, with flattened edges. The last branches are short, sharp at first, ending with a spathulated shape. It has a creeping base. |
