Notes: João Cardoso Margarida Marques Porto Covo, Sines, Portugal The algae was extracted in Porto Covo, Sines, in Portugal. It’s famous for one of its places called Ilha do Pessegueiro, which was sung by a portuguese singer named Rui Veloso. Porto Covo contains numerous beaches, like Espingardeiro, Pequena, Buizinhos and Porto Covo Bay.These beaches are well known for their long and wonderful sand áreas.
Description:
The algae Fucus spiralis is a species in the Heterokontophyta division, more specifically in the Phaeophyceae family. This species can grow up to 40 centimeters long and has somewhat dicotomous irregular branches and can be found attached to rocks. It can sustain long periods of desiccation, being able to live up to 4-5 years. It’s a very common algae species, being easily recognisable by these characteristics when it reaches its adult form. However, younger forms of the species can be confused with other species of the same genus.
