Description: |
Is a yellow brown algae, class Phaeophyceae and family Laminariaceae. It is commonly known as sea belt or Devil’s apron. It can be up to 3 m in length, with a claw-like holdfast, a small, smooth, flexible stipe, and an undivided rugged blade (due to depressions on the blade). It is the only species in the North-East Atlantic with this kind of blade. It can be found at intertidal pools and subtidal regions, mostly from northern Russia to the south of Galicia, Spain, including the shores of Britain and Ireland. It is used in asian cuisine, as kombu, and in developing spatial models of potential distribution of the kelp species Laminaria hyperborea.
