Description: An unattached, fragile alga with a calcareous skeleton, it closely resembles and is often mistaken for Phymatolithon calcareum. Its form is highly variable but typically appears as highly branched nodules forming a 3-D lattice. Individual plants can reach 4-5 cm across and are bright pink when alive but turn white when dead.
