Description: |
Cystoseira is distinguished by its highly differentiated basal and apical regions and the presence of catenate pneumatocysts (air-vesicles). In older Cystoseira plants, the main axis becomes elongated over time, and the primary laterals also elongate proportionally. The lower parts of these laterals are strongly flattened into 'foliar expansions' or basal leaves. |
