Description: |
The Ellisolandia elongata is an articulate coralline alga, that belongs to the Coralinaceae family of the Coralinalles group. This family is characterized by their calciferous deposits within their cells, being responsible for processes of carbon fixation in the more superficial layers of the ocean with rocky terrain. They are Rodophytas, commonly refered as “Red Algae”, due to their high content of phycoerythrin, a photosynthetic pigment that gives them their red-ish color. They are highly distributed thorough the Mediterranean Sea and North-Eastern Atlantice, and because of their natural habitat, they exhibit tolerance to a dynamic physio-chemical environment. |
