Description: |
Undaria pinnatifida, belonging to the order Laminariales, is a golden-brown alga (Phaeophyceae) with a parenchymatous texture. Its thallus can reach up to 1-3 meters long and divides into a frond, consisting of a stipe (central midrib) that supports a translucent, lanceolate to elliptical blade, with loosely arranged, oppositely positioned, wavy lobes. The frond ends in an attachment organ composed of small rhizoids (haptera), which anchor it to rocky substrates. The stipe may also feature a wrinkled structure called a sporophyll. |
