A red algae that have several paired branches with erect tufts up to 15 cm tall. Significant are the cotton like pink clusters. They are shortlived and seen in the summer time. Annual Algae grow and multiply rapidly and compete effectively with perennials for space and light. Color Pink to red. Average size 15 cm |

Basionym Conferva plumula J.Ellis Type information Type locality: Unlocalised, probably Sussex, England (Maggs & Hommersand 1993: 26). Lectotype: Ellis’s original illustration (pl. XVIII: G) (epitype) (Maggs & Hommersand 1993: 26). Notes: Dixon (1960) considered that the type was lost. Maggs & Hommersand (1993: 26) selected as lectotype Ellis’s illustration in pl. XVIII: fig. G. Type species This is the type species (holotype) of the genus Pterothamnion. |
