                              Description: | 
						Thallus bushy, vivid purple to pale yellowish red, upright cylindrical main axes cartilaginous-firm, with numerous long, softer irregularly spirally arranged lateral axes, branching to the fourth degree; the recent branches also stand rather loosley, spindle-shaped tapering at both ends, the apices pointed and crowned by hair-thin filamentous tufts (magnifying glass required); plants with reproductive bodies appear more densely branched periperally. Discoid holdfast, on prostate axes additional rhizoids (Braune & Guiry, 2011). Original publication: Wynne, M.J. (1991). A change in the name of the type of Chondria C. Agardh (Rhodomelaceae, Rhodophyta). Taxon 40: 316-318.
