Description: |
Thallus erect, iridescent blue and green in the field, or light brown, often with dark olive-brown bands, branching dichotomous. Blades strap-shaped, with smooth margins, 3-5 mm wide, 100-140 μm thick. Medulla of one cell layer. Surface hairs uncommon. De Clerck (2003) notes that De Clerck & Coppejans (1997b: 414-415) showed after verification of the type specimen that D. bartayresiana contains no surface proliferations or involucrate sporangia thus agreeing with Kützing (1859: 8. pl. 16, fig. 1) and Taylor (1960: 219, pl. 30, fig.2) and contrary to Vickers (1908: 38, pl. 12-13) an Jaasund (1970: 72, fig. 1D, 2C). |

Habitat: |
Found in intertidal pools, epiphytic on other seaweeds. |
Type information: |
Type locality: Antilles, West Indies (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 586). Lectotype: CN C7F99 (De Clerck 2003: 163). Notes: De Clerck & Coppejans (1997b: 414-415) showed after verification of the type specimen that D. bartayresiana contains no surface proliferations or involucrate sporangia thus agreeing with Kützing (1859: 8, pl. 16, fig.1) and Taylor (1960: 219, pl. 30, fig.2) and contrary to Vickers (1908: 38, pl. 12-13)and Jaasund (1970: 72, fig. 1D, 2C). The species incorrectly called D. bartayresiana by Vickers has been shown by De Clerck & Coppejans to be referable to D. crispata Lamouroux. De Clerck, in Skelton & South (2004: 295), suggests that the type locality is Haiti. |
