Description: |
Thallus bushy, brown, often iridescent blue-green under water, erect, robust and stately; the flattened fronds show a branching pattern atypical for the genus: distinct main axes branch repeated-alterning, terminal forkings of the latitudinal axes turn into spur-like, 1-2 mm long, pointed or rounded tips (Braune & Guiry, 2011). Original publication: Kützing, F.T. (1859). Tabulae phycologicae; oder, Abbildungen der Tange. Vol. 9 pp. i-vii, 1-42, 100 pls. Nordhausen: Gedruckt auf kosten des Verfassers (in commission bei W.
