Description: |
Erect thalli collected in the fi eld are dorsiventrally fl attened and arise from an encrusting base or small discoid holdfast. The erect blades, up to 13 cm long and 2 cm wide, are lanceolate or obovate, simple, solid and thin, gradually tapering at the base. The plurilocular sporangia lack paraphyses and are positioned in continuous sori covering most of the surface area of the blades (Pereira 2016). Description link |

Uses and compounds |
Used as food in China, Japan, Taiwan and Korea (Johnston 1966, Arasaki and Arasaki 1983, Tseng 1983, Mori et al. 2004, Yang et al. 2010). In coastal Shandong (China), this alga is cut into pieces with pork and used as a fi lling (“xian”) in Chinese dumplings or prepared as a cooked vegetable by the “chao” method (Bangmei and Abbott 1987). |
