Thallus flat 2 to 30 cm long without transverse ribs, split in regular dichotomous yellow-brown branches with parallel sides and without mid-rib. The tips of every branch are bifid. Branches 3 to 10 mm wide, 2 to 10 mm thickness and membranous. The reproductive structures are scattered over the fronds. Very common and globally distributed in shallow water on firm substrata, found in > 50 m depht.
