Notes: Filipa Santos Silva and Francisca Santos Silva --- Porto Judeu is situated in south east coast of the island Terceira in the Azores, is a town of Angra do Heroísmo city (38° 38′ 59″ N, 27° 7′ 0″ W). It covers an area of 30.86 square kilometers, have 2501 dwellers, according to the general census 2011. The village has a port and an excellent beach area, because is located in a very dry area, also has a dry microclimate. A significant part of the active population works in Angra do Heroísmo and Praia da Vitoria in various activities such as animal husbandry, fisheries, construction, joinery and carpentry, bakery, restaurant, etc. As a point of interest suggest visiting the Algar Caves located in Caldeira Guilherme Moniz, asleep former volcano, these Algar visitors can go up to 100 m deep, and are observed only stalactites in the world. Still highlight an underground lagoon with crystalline waters. Is classified as Regional Natural Monument, it’s still a candidate for World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Description:

Codium adharens is a seaweed with a gelatinous texture, touch smooth, the thallus forms a firm dark green “pillow”, is irregularly shaped and prostate.

Very adherent to substrate (but sometimes prominent) with 5 to 10 mm of thickness.

 

Can be found in the sublittoral coast, covers the surface of rocks, exposed or protected, in large water flow and low light conditions. This species belongs to the class Ulvoplyceae (ex: Raphidophyceae) and the genus Codium. Specimens have a wide distribution, can be found in Europe, include Portugal (14 beaches), and also in many others continents like Asian, African, Australian.
