Description: Hermaphrodite green alga with a monophyletic life cycle. We can see epiphytic red algae on the thallus. A spongy, branched stalk about 19.5 cm high, covered in colourless hairs (only visible when submerged in water) that give the algae a velvety feel. The base is disc-shaped with filaments that serve to attach themselves to exposed or submerged rocks up to a depth of around 10 metres. It is native to the north-east Atlantic Ocean, from the United Kingdom to the south of the Azores and Cape Verde, but can also be found in North America, Asia and South Africa.
