Undaria pinnatifida is an algae native to the Pacific Russia, Japan, China and Korea, and has become an invasive species in Europe, becoming a pest in some locations. Popularly known as wakame, this algae is edible and it's used in medicine for its cancer prevention, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antidiabetic properties. Its morphology can be described in having three parts: a stipe that extends to a midrib, a lobed blade (in adult specimens) and a rhizoid. |
