Gracilaria multipartita, commonly known as cleaved wart weed, belongs to the genus Gracilaria Greville. Its thalli range from dull purple to reddish-brown, are translucent, and can reach up to 25 cm in height. The thalli are cartilaginous and fragile divided into up to 6 long and narrow blades, with margins that often exhibit proliferations. This species grows on hard substrates and tolerates moderate wave exposure and sand. It occurs in both intertidal and subtidal zone at depths of up to 15 m. G. multipartita has a triphasic life cycle, with an isomorphic alternation of generations.
