Description: |
Codium tomentosum, is a green algae that is reasonably abundant on rocky shores and in tide pools. It has a spongy, branched structure and an intense green color. Several specimens were found on my trip to Buarcos, of various sizes and with different stages of growth. I had to go along the rocks to an area closer to the sea to be able to observe this species in greater abundance. After collecting several specimens I was able to realize that most of them were typically found in higher areas of the rocks, perhaps to be closer to the sunlight, in order to maximize photosynthesis. |
