Description:

Gracilaria multipartita is a species of large seaweed belonging to the Gracilariaceae family. This macroalga typically grows attached to rocks or other solid surfaces and is capable of withstanding a variety of wave conditions. It is found from the upper sublittoral zone down to depths of 15 meters and can endure being partially covered by sand or mud. The algae are translucent with a dull purple or reddish-brown hue, although sometimes they appear faded. The stem, which is flattened, gradually widens into a blade approximately 1 mm thick and up to 1 cm across between branch splits. It can branch up to six times within the same plane as the blade, often with edges that produce additional growths. Gracilaria multipartita is distributed along the Mediterranean coast, the western French coast, the southern coast of England, and both the eastern and western shores of North America.
