Description:

Ellisolandia elongata it’s a macroscopic marine algae included in the rhodophyta filo and Carallinaceae family. This seaweed presents a reddish-lilac color and can have up to 10 cm of height. It can be found in rocks exposed to intertidal activity. The life cycle of the Ellisolandia elongata oscillates between gametophyte, tetrasporophyte and carposporophyte generations. This contributes to its resistance to environment changes and it´s the reason why this algae can be found in most European seashore. Ellisolandia elongata alsorepresents an habitat for countless species and is a good bioindicator of water quality status.
