Description:

Codium tomentosum is a green seaweed, usually found in shallow coastal areas. These algae, which belongs to the Phylum Chlorophyta, presents a soft texture, with cylindrical ramifications and a spongy appearance. Its color can variate between a lighter or darker green depending on environmental conditions. It prefers calm and temperature waters, and can be found in the Mediterranean, the Atlantic coasts of Europe, and parts of the Pacific. It can grow up to 30 cm and it is often attached to rocks or shells. These algae play an important role in some ecosystems because it can provide food and shelter for some animals such as small invertebrates and fish.
