This algae has a branched, flattened structure with a cartilaginous texture and a compressed stipe. Their fronds can measure up to 25 centimeters in length and are about 1 millimeter thick. This algae is usually translucent reddish in color, sometimes displaying purple tones. It typically is attached to infralittoral rocks and other hard substrates. The edges of the blade frequently exhibit growth or budding.
