Description: |
Codium tomentosum is a green macroalga characterized by its dichotomous branching and cylindrical, spongy structure, which reach an overall length of 20–30 cm. Each branch measures approximately 8–10 mm in diameter, giving the seaweeed a robust appearance. The frond exhibits a felt-like texture. The alga displays a uniform olive-green coloration across the entire structure, which contributes to its distinctive visual profile. Codium tomentosum is anchored to rocky substrates via a disc-shaped holdfast wich consists of a network of fine, interwoven threads that ensure a strong attachment. This perennial species is well adapted to infra-littoral zones, particularly in deep rock pools along the lower shore. |
