The algue we are studying in these proyect is the specie Undaria Pinnatifida, an invasive algae which is part of the class phaeophyceae, order laminaria. In these case we had the opportunity of take it in a beach near to coimbra, in Figueira de foz. Its colour is a mix between green and brown, depending on how deep is in the water, containing chlorofila a, c and fucoxantins. These ones is also known as wakame, a food very common in some countries as it is in Japan, but we can also use it for the production of fertilizers, flours or for the extractions of compounds with biological activities. |
